INSTALLATION GUIDE FOR MRSTEAM COMMERCIAL GENERATORS
Steam Room Requirements

  1. The steam room must be completely enclosed with full walls, door, floor, and ceiling.
  2. It is recommended that a gasketed door be used for heat sealing and steam containment.
  3. If tile flooring is used, install anti-skid strips or equivalent, for safety.
  4. Walls and ceilings must be covered with water-resistant, non-corrosive surface, such as tile, molded acrylic, fiberglass, etc. The ceiling must be sloped.
  5. Provide a floor drain.
  6. Refer to local building codes or consultants for room construction details.
  7. The steam room is not to be operated above 120 degrees F (approximately 49 degrees C).
  8. MrSteam units are designed to be operated with a F1 Plus Temperature Controller, which is to be installed strictly in accordance with the specific instructions provided with the generator.


Locating the Steambath Generator Unit

Select a location as near as possible to the steam room:

  1. For best performance, locate the steambath generator within 50 feet of steam room.
  2. The steambath generator should not be installed inside the steam room or outdoors.
  3. The steambath generator should not be installed in an unheated attic or basement where water could freeze, or near combustible or corrosive materials and chemicals. Installation in areas having a high concentration of chlorine (such as a pool equipment room) should be avoided.
  4. Install the steambath generator on a solid and level surface.
  5. Provide access to top and ends of the steambath generator for servicing.
  6. Steam line, safety valve, and drain valve become hot during operation. Provide appropriate protection.
  7. The unit should not be installed in areas accessible to the general public (i.e., utility room).

 

Installation

Notes:

  1. Allow minimum of 24" for servicing except for back (d). See item 4.
  2. All piping dimensions are approximate.
  3. MM150 Liquid Level Control on CU-1000 and larger only. CU-360 to CU-750 have electronic level control.
  4. Clearance from combustible surfaces.
    • Top -- 1"
    • Front -- Alcove installation only.
    • Left -- 1"
    • Back -- 1"
    • Right -- 16"
    • Suitable for combustible flooring.

Plumbing
All plumbing shall be performed by a qualified plumber and in accordance with
applicable national and local codes.

Water Supply

  1. Connect the hot or cold water line. The hot water line is preferable. Incoming hot water should not exceed 160° F.
  2. Provide a shutoff valve in the supply line.
  3. Flush the inlet water line thoroughly before making connection to the unit.
  4. Incoming water supply pressure should be at least 25 psi but not to exceed 100 psi.
  5. Install a back flow preventer if required by code.


Steam Line

  1. The steam solenoid valve should be plumbed as close as practical to the steam room.
  2. Pitch the steam line a minimum of _" drop per linear foot of run (either direction) to avoid valley and trapping of condensate.
  3. Insulate the steam line.

Steam Head

  1. Locate the steam head 6 to 12 inches from the floor, except: When used in steam rooms with acrylic or other nonheat-resistant floors, install a steam head 20-30 inches from the floor and use a MrSteam steam shield (part #103412).
  2. If the steam room has a seat(s), locate the steam head as far away from the seat(s) as possible.
  3. Install the steam head with steam-emission slot facing downward.
  4. Note: To preserve the steam head finish, do not use wrench or other tools to tighten. Hand tightening is sufficient.

Drain
Where local codes permit, provide a drain line connection from the steambath generator drain
valve. Check plumbing code for receptor, trap and vent requirements. If an Auto Blowdown is
used, the drain line must be connected to the blowdown valve.

Safety Valve
Where permitted by local codes, provide a connection for the safety valve. Warning: DO NOT connect a shutoff valve or a plug to the safety valve outlet. DO NOT reduce outlet size of safety valve discharge.

Electrical
Caution: Electric shock hazard. Disconnect all power supplies before proceeding. A qualified electrician, in accordance with local and national codes must install all electrical wiring.

The unit is completely wired internally and pre-tested before shipment. No internal
rewiring is required during field installation. Supply voltage is indicated on unit.

  1. Check power voltage on the nameplate. Provide a separate control supply of 120 VAC (not required when optional power transformer is provided).
  2. Use minimum 90 degree copper conductors only, sized in accordance with National and Local electrical codes and the Amperage Chart above.
  3. Connect the equipment grounding wire to the ground terminal provided.
  4. Install a separate circuit breaker between the electrical supply and the unit.
  5. Tighten all electrical connections.
